Default 2016 reset

Happy New Year, everybody!

Let's make 2016 a happy, healthy and prosperous one.

On that note, I've decided to reset counting my days of sobriety starting from today. I need to change my thinking and actions, plus it's much easier to remember this way!

It's a beautiful, clear New Year's Day here, which is a perfect way to start day 1 and a new year.

Best wishes to all.

Happy New Year, Secret Tiger! The only thing that any one of us has is today, and I'm so grateful for that. Last night at work another server asked me if I was done drinking 'forever'.....I said, "Well, I've made it through today without drinking, I think I'll try it again tomorrow." Take care! Jenm

Good afternoon dear Secret Tiger. Bright blessings to you.

How are you getting along? How is resetting working for you my brother?

I really like that as a concept. When we all want to run in the race, we need to know where the start line is.

Be peaceful, be healthy and be strong. Loveness to you dear Secret Tiger

Thanks for the messages!

The reset is going well - it's especially easy to remember how many days it is. (8 today!)

I've been running and cycling, eating lots of fresh food and fruit, drinking lots of tea and water, getting lots of work done and relaxing.

I'll catch up with everybody soon. I have been reading the threads and I'll make time to post more often. I can say "I'm busy", but everybody is busy! No excuses - I'll pop in again tomorrow.

Thank you for asking about me, I really appreciate it. Take care.

Hi ST, nice to hear from you, I'm leaning to you to eat better today. You are inspiring me. Of course, the main thing is not drinking, but we can work on the holistic approach as you do. Have a great day! keep up the good work

9 days today. I went for a 50km bike ride. There was a biting wind, but it felt good after a while - especially when it was behind me pushing me along!

I hope everybody has a safe and happy day.

Good morning dear Secret Tiger. Bright blessings to you.

50km bike ride?? Good grief. Why not point your bike in the direction of dear ole Blighty and i'll pop the kettle on for you. Do you take sugar in your rosey lea?...(tea).

Keep going my brother.

Be peaceful, be healthy and be strong. Loveness to you dear Secret Tiger

No sugar in my tea, Tryn, thanks. I'll bring some green tea, if you're interested.

Alexis, I've heard of the I Ching but never really looked into it. Any good?

It's been another lovely day here. We had a small sprinkling of snow yesterday morning, which was a surprise, although it didn't stick. I was out for an early morning stroll in the park and standing amongst the trees in silence, watching the snow fall, was amazingly peaceful.

I marked the 13th day of sobriety this year with a long run/walk and then 30km commute by bike. I'm keeping busy, eating well, exercising and staying focused. Trying to enjoy every moment of this wonderful life.

Have a great day, everyone!

you sound great ST!!

The I Ching, well im trying to learn it. I got interested in it through reading how John Cage composed his music using its method.

"The I Ching uses a type of divination called cleromancy, which produces apparently random numbers. Four numbers, 6 through 9, are turned into a hexagram, which can then be looked up in the I Ching book, arranged in an order known as the King Wen sequence. The interpretation of the readings found in the I Ching is a matter of centuries of debate, and many commentators have used the book symbolically, often to provide guidance for moral decision making as informed by Taoism and Confucianism. The hexagrams themselves have often acquired cosmological significance and paralleled with many other traditional names for the processes of change such as yin and yang and Wu Xing."

John Cage once said music & creativity was "an affirmation of life – not an attempt to bring order out of chaos nor to suggest improvements in creation, but simply a way of waking up to the very life we're living".

I like that a lot, and will try to remember it and live well.

Love to you ST xxx

I'm just really struggling.

Thanks for asking, Alexis! Sorry not to reply on your thread, but that guy didn't know you were having problems. They choose people at random and use cold and warm reading to hook people in. There are nice religious people (like Jenm) who just share their feelings.

Believe me, he has no clue about you. Don't worry about it.

He was trying to rely on the Paul McKenna kind of thing.

Hey Secret Tiger!

The crazy thing about it is, well, R Lee is right.

I mean, it sure seemed crazy to me. Back in the days when I was using lots of dope.

Like so many of us, I would get this terrible craving, this pounding urge, call it whatever, but it would be harsh! and I would feel literally compelled to use dope---as much as I could get. So often I felt out of control, as if I had no power of thought or action.

So? So during that dark time I always found a way to fed that monster. Meaning, I always used.

However.

Toward the end, once I woke up, when I finally started to fight back, I discovered that astounding thing. It didn't always work perfectly, yet it DID work.

That thing was...When I could distract myself from THINKING about the dope, when I would allow some chunk of time to pass, I would, after a while, look up to find that, good Lord!, I was no longer jonsing.

Now, to be honest, this wasn't true when I was in actual withdrawals. The physical part nearly beat me to death. It did, indeed.

Yet, longwinded point---getting "past it" can work. YOU can get past this, I believe...based on all that I've read from your posts. You're a strong and decent person. Thoughtful, too. You know yourself, ST---to some extent anyway. I think this is true.

So?

Go run, heart pounding, sweat slinging hard. Go on a damn long hike. Leave your home now and walk the sidewalks of your city. You know what to do, right? So go do it.

Simple, right? Just not easy. I know. Sorry, ST.

Best you can, man, fight back. Just run faster that that effing demon. No, not easy, but doable.

best to you Secret Tiger!

sam

SecretTiger -

It doesn't take much to go down that slippery slope...but you will learn a great deal by your struggle. Once you know how best you can cope....the next struggle will be easy to overcome. Please stay strong and hang on, don't drink and don't go down that slippery path. It's not worth it.

Count each day being sober...and reward handsomely for what you earned. You are smart enough to know what to do.

Good afternoon dear Secret Tiger. Bright blessings to you.

I am the last person in the world to offer up that ones problems and the solutions to them, lay gently within oneself. I still never forget your history, or why you are called Secret Tiger. It is that boyhood experience, that quite obviously shaped your personal pathway in life. From the culture that is embedded around you, a sure choice if there ever was one, and the depth of your spirit and soul, empowers these seemingly endless struggles.

As you search i implore you to recognise the strength and worth that you are all about.

Let yourself be "all about".

Be peaceful, be healthy and be strong. Loveness to you dear Secret Tiger. Hide no more.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the messages. I've been away from electronic stuff as much as possible for a few days. I've been walking, running, working, cycling, meditating and eating and drinking simply and healthily. It's helped to clear my head a lot and I'm feeling a lot better.

Thanks for the support.

Hello everyone!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. It's been a very interesting time for me - spending some time really getting to know myself and accepting myself. It's been hard, but great.

I have been reading and I'd like to thank you all for supporting me even though I haven't been reciprocating. I've kind of been in retreat and still am for a little bit.

Isn't life amazing? We should never forget that. I'm learning it more day by day.

I haven't been drinking, by the way! I'm really happy to say that I'm learning a lot and enjoying every second.

Take care.

Hey ST!

Delighted to see your latest post. Glad you're back, mostly glad that you're not drinking. Well, glad for both. Ha!

To know oneself is the challenge of our lives. The answers, however, sit inside us, so I believe. We just gotta keep looking until we discover where, and who, they are.

Not an easy quest, God knows---but an essential one.....I think.

Good for you, ST.
