This is a victory, iamtrying! We can do anything for an hour, which includes thinking of all the negative things that can happen if we take the first drink. I'm really proud of you.

I agree - the media portrays alcohol as no big deal, so fun, happy groups of people, etc. This may be true for those who are not addicted to alcohol, but it is not true for me. Sure, I could 'act' like it was so fun and all that, but all that time I would be dying on the inside. My spirit does not need that today! Good job! Jenm

Nice job!
Not drinking is the easy part. Staying sober is the hard part. First things first.
Keep up the good work.

After about three months, I forgot to keep counting days. Until I saw your post, I had forgotten to count months! Today I have been sober for 9 months, thanks to my friends here.

If I can do it, after drinking for 50 years, there is hope for everyone! Keep counting!

We get by with a little help from our friends.

Good morning....

Thanks Susie, Lostdog and saint and all..

Susie - One thing I have observed in myself is when I count and write here every day just for few minutes, It gives me a moment to self reflect and gives me time to chalk out plan for today, just to be myself and think for myself that is good....I barely did that before or in-fact i probably did it thruout the day but not in a very thoughtful way. e.g - how many of you thought what you will be doing one thing good today or this weekend that will improve skills at work and something that will make you physically look good......

Day 136 no drinks and feeling good....

i have been very busy with work lately...

Remembering, one day at a time, I am responsible for my actions and their consequences, think thru the first drink and urge...relax and easy...

Thank you for the support....

Have a great day and weekend...stay safe and stay sober.

Good evening I Am Trying. Bright blessings to you.

Just, erm, just you should write, never mind every day for a few minutes to reflect each day, log it my friend.

Your journey is not so much an inspiration...... as a daily plan. You are exceptional. A gift to all here for sure.

If i could, i would spend many, many hours around your table, thankfully you bring it here.

Thank you I Am Trying.

Congratulations on 136, you work so hard each day to achieve it.

Be peaceful, be healthy and keep your beautiful strength. Loveness to you I Am Trying

Good morning...

Thank you Rlee and Tyrn and all...

Day 137 no drinks feeling good...

Remembering, one day at a time, i am responsible for my actions and their consequences, think thru the first drink and urge...relax and easy...

Did lawn mowing for first time this year, felt different, I used to drink enough to get high and start the lawn mower, sometimes I used to binge 4-5 shots and step out...this time I had to take time to tell myself that it is not the same and change is good ...lawn mowing sober...in the end I was just thankful to not feel an urge either before or after lawn mowing...

Thank you all for the support....

Have a great weekend...stay sober and stay safe...

Boy that sounds like the way I used to mow my lawn. Empty bag of clippings drink beer. Empty bag of clippings drink beer. Repeat as many times as needed until complete!

Good work Iamtrying.

These things (mowing) can also bring on urges to drink...

The mind is very powerful!

Thanks Saint...initially my mind did, as soon as i held that lawn mower for first time and started dusting and putting gas in it...the smell of gas triggered the urge..how strange...then the spring breeze reminded me again..but my other mind was very strong it pushed away the urge...

but agree never know where it strikes from, i am always vigilant...never get complacent...

thank you

Good morning I Am Trying. Bright blessings to you.

What a brilliant poignant post. That really helped me recognise my "own lawnmower". It took me a long time to sit at a piano and play it without the accompaniment of alcohol.

Such an "instinctive pull" needed significant addressing. Frankly i had to "relearn" that in order to have the relationship i wanted with my piano, alcohol only ever got in the way. Now when i finish playing it feels so much more honest and true, and now is only ever accompanied by innocent pride.

Thank you for making me realise my piano was my lawnmower.

Congrats on 137 days.

Be peaceful, be healthy and be strong. Loveness to you I Am Trying

Wow, yes, the lawnmower post. I don't know why, but that was eye-opening. I need to more actively recognize my own lawnmowers.

Thank you so much.

Good afternoon I Am Trying. Bright blessings to you.

I am sorry to hear the morals, ethics and principles have had the turn of events that they have had.

Stoicism my brother. If stoicism was sand on your beach, my hoards would be able to make sandcastles forever.

Another day, another dollar I Am Trying.

Constant inspiration. Thank you.

Iamtrying,

You are learning to live life on life's terms, sober!

You are confronting unethical and inappropriate behavior. Good for you. Remember THEY are in the wrong, not you. Don't let them rent space in your head for free.

Keep up the good work.

Good afternoon I Am Trying. Bright blessings to you.

You know i have this meeting in my home today, ummmm....should be here in 45 mins.

Day 145, symetary my dear brother?

I know people say, " you give them strength".....indeed you do. Now ask me why?

The strength you give me i can not put my finger on. All i know is you have such strength about you, and i feel privileged to think of you before a meeting that i can wear my slippers in!

What you are I Am Trying is quite, quite unique. I am, and we are blessed you are with us.

Wish me luck in my slippers..

Good morning...

Thanks Millie and lostdog and all....

Day 150 no drinks feeling good...that is 5 months.

Again, remembering, one day at a time, I am responsible for my actions and their consequences, think thru the first drink and urge ....relax and easy..

I have been having a little rough week at work, there are rumors about cost cutting and losing jobs as well...overall company is in panic mode...in a stress like this everyone is hitting the bar...I am holding back and taking one moment at a time...so far doing Ok...but i am always vigilant...

I want ask here for your experience and help, how to handle the alcohol if they lose the job or got laid off because of companies cost cutting ? I am trying to be prepared just in case....

Thank you all for help and support...I completed 5 months today, i wouldn't have done without your support. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...

Have a great day .....stay sober and stay safe...

Day 151 no drinks feeling good....

Remembering, one day at a time, I am responsible for my actions and their consequences, think thru the first drink and urge...relax and easy...

I am organizing/putting new shelves in my basement and garage...keeping busy always helps and i enjoying doing stuff around the house....

lately, one thing i have realized is life is so much better when you take alcohol and hangover/damage control out of the equation of life.

Have a great long weekend.... stay sober and stay safe...

Hi iamtrying, congratulations on 5 months!

Can you start seeing what it out there as far as jobs just in case you're effected by the cost-cutting? By being proactive, you're not being disloyal to your current employer. You are covering your bases and and protecting yourself.

Is there anyone who can confirm or deny the rumors? It would be a shame for everyone to be all caught in what might be nothing but rumors. But it doesn't hurt to be prepared to hit the ground running with an up-to-date resume and some research if they are truths and not rumors. Just some food for thought.

Hope you have an unstressful long weekend. Keep up your fabulous work. As the others have said, you are an inspiration!

Nancy
