Hi globie, instead of just stopping the Suboxone, think about taking it every other day for a little bit, and then you can try to either stretch it out to every 3rd day or give stopping a try. That might be a little easier.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hi globie, how much do you have left and when is your doctor's appointment? Are you going to a counselor?

Hey Globie,

Nancy asks an important question, "how much do you have left and when is your doctor's appointment?"

Actually, there are a few additional questions, but maybe the most important question for the situation you're in now is this one: How much medication can you get by on without putting yourself into any withdrawal?

In other words, you're supposed to take a certain dose.....can you take LESS than that without feeling any serious discomfort?

IMO, that would be a better plan than calling your doctor and confessing that you've been exceeding his/her prescribed dose. Nothing will make a physician see an Addiction Red Flag than a patient dipping into his pill bottle.

So, how much mediation do you have right now? How much are your SUPPOSED to take each day? When is your next doctors appointment?

Start there, Globie...how about that?

And yes sir, it is really important for you to identify WHY you began taking more than you're supposed to.

Stress about life may be all OUR reasons for using/misusing medications, but it's really not a good enough reason. Why? Because, as you know, doing that will always, always! bite us in the butt, sooner or later.

Write back, Globie...okay?

best,

sam

Hi globie, Sam's advise is great. Take as little as you can until next Tuesday. You might be able to skip a day in between - depending on how much you've been taking for the last week.

Hi globie,

Hope you are doing OK. I think it is great that you didn't use any other opiate pain medicine when you got hurt. Glad you are back to work and hope that you can manage having less sub until Tuesday.

Best,
Elizabeth

Hi globie, are you still in pain and taking more meds than prescribed? I hope that work gets better for you soon.

Sorry to hear that your dad needs surgery. I hope that it's successful and he has a speedy recovery.

Keep checking in when you can.

Hi again, are you running out of suboxone every month because you're taking more than prescribed? One thing about buprenorphine for pain, it works better at lower doses - 2 to 4mg every 4 to 6 hours - than taking large doses. Maybe you can give that a try. What is the dose you're prescribed?

Hi globie, how much are you prescribed? If it's more, then these tips might help:

• Tips for taking Suboxone.
-No caffeine or nicotine for at least 30 minutes before taking your Suboxone – both may constrict the blood vessels that the medication is absorbed through.
-Right before taking it, rinse your mouth out with as warm water as possible – this may dilate the blood vessels for better absorption.

Hi globie, this is a good thread to read. It has people's taper stories - good and bad - things can be learned from both.
http://addictionsurvivors.org/vbulle...ad.php?t=16678

The most success has come from people who take their time and listen to their bodies. If a reduction is too much, then they go back up and retry later.

Hi globie, glad it helped. There are a lot of good taper stories out there, and many more that don't get posted. What dose are you on now? Keeping busy definitely helps. Also exercise because that helps to get your natural endorphins going.

Do you want me to move this thread to the taper section so others might see it and chime in? Or you can start a new thread there? Let me know. Here's the taper section:
http://addictionsurvivors.org/vbulle...splay.php?f=80

Keep posting and we'll support you along the way!

Hi globie, keeping a positive attitude is important, and you've certainly done that! Are you sleeping ok or is your anxiety keeping you up at night?

Let us know how your taper goes!
