Default Hey Y'all!

I've been away for a long time! Been to Virginia to help my sister pack up and move; back to Virginia to get my oversize load escort certification; down to North Carolina for my friend's memorial; over to New York to visit some very dear old friends; out to Texas to pick up my son for the summer and escort my first load up to Pennsylvania; escort my husband all over Pennsylvania and West Virginia...hauling wind turbine tower sections. And now I'm home...for a few weeks at least.

Life's been crazy-busy and I know I've said a bunch of times before, "I'll be around more." I'm not making that statement again! At least not with regard to this site. I'll be around the country more; I've put almost 10K miles on my car.

Hope everyone is well. We're struggling, just like many people. But with being clean and keeping hope...things will get better.

Have an awesome, dopeless day,

-DHF

Hi DHF, wow, you have been all over the place! I'm really glad you were able to stop by between traveling all over the place. Yikes.

Will this be a permanent thing doing the overside escort? How do you like it?

Look forward to when you can drop by again. Drive safely!

Nancy

Hi Nancy!

Yeah, I'm glad to be home, at least for a few more days. We're supposedly going to Florida this week sometime. Tower sections will be going to Illinois. It's not a year-round job; just during spring-to-fall when the weather is the best.

I like it a lot! I love to drive, love to travel, and this gives us an opportunity to be together as a family. The money I earn pretty much covers hotels, restaurants, and a little fun stuff here and there.

Since I'm home, I've been able to check in here more frequently. But on the road, it's early mornings, running all day, late nights getting hotels and food, and then repeat all over again the next day.

Hope all is well with you and family!

Hi DHF, that's great you like the job. Plus having the family together is a huge benefit. Doesn't it drive you crazy having to drive so slowly though? lol

Drive safe and have fun!

Hi Nancy!

Yes, being together as a family is the whole reason I'm doing it. I only escort my husband, although I've done a couple real short runs, just when a driver is needing an extra escort. Every state has it's own requirements.

LOL! Ordinarily, driving slow would irritate me. However, when escorting, I'm usually behind the load (since I'm a newbie) and part of the job is watching the load for shifting, loose chains/binders, trailer tires about to blow...all kinds of calamities!

For example, this last load...my husband's rotating amber lights flew off the trailer and bounced around in the road. I radioed him, told him I was pulling over to get the lights out of the road.

And I'm glad I did. Those lights have huge sentimental value...they were given to my husband by our friend who passed away in May.

I'm home for at least a few days...will be heading out next week, not sure where this job will take us!

Hi CarlyO!

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, my family has been through some issues lately...but really, whose hasn't? Since March, I've only heard from my daughter 3 times...only because she wanted something. Evidently, her dad got his money, and she'd rather be where the money is.

Her birthday is coming up in a few days. And actually, I don't feel as bad about the situation as I anticipated. I've spent a wonderful summer with my sons and husband, as well as time with good friends, especially our friend's widow. We've all laughed and cried together...I think these experiences have changed my perspective a bit. The gloom and doom has definitely lifted.

Life's too short to worry about stuff that may not happen. Yes, it's taken me a long time to figure that out, and I need to keep it in the forefront of my thoughts.

My little guy and I...we're online-schooling again this year. This has been my focus and will be until next summer. Life's good!

How are you doing? Hope all is well with you and your family.

Hi DHF, I guess you can't drive too fast if you have watch for all of that other stuff! Glad you were able to save those lights too.

That's too bad about your daughter - she is really missing out on a great mom. I love your new attitude. Life is too short. And there are just some things we do have to let go because we can't change them.

Good to hear the home schooling is working out again for this year!

Drive safely!

Dear Bunz,

I posted to you on your thread but wanted to let you know how sorry I am for this sad time, the loss of a dear friend. DHF is a great person like many here , if you do the work, you can change your life, you do not have to live the life your parents or foster put you through.
I used to go speaker meetings early on because I was not into the group gig, but mandated by court to attend meetings, anyway those meetings saved my life. They gave me hope, my experience paled in comparison to some of the stories I heard, I had hope for the first time that no matter what I had been through I could have a new life, free of substances, free of escaping memories, escaping me, etc...

Hang in there and I hope you will post soon. Take care of yourself, Carly
