Hi Hogie911

Here is a topic about alcohol withdrawal.

http://www.alcoholanswers.org/alcoho...withdrawal.cfm

It would seem you are having symptoms.....what is your plan? Are you going to try and do this on your own or with assistance?

hogie911,
I tried 3-year's ago to try on my own; my hand's keep shaking , I was dry heaving and It just seemed like my body needed it. Physically needed it.
I had to go to a Detox , for me it was only 3-day's , everyone is different.
But I spoke to my Dr. and he helped me see I could not do it on my own.
You can actually have a siezure which for me could have been life threatning.
I am glad I did it , It has been 3-year's and some month's and I have no desire for alcohol , the smell actually make's me sick. I was lucky not everyone is, This is just my experience. I was using alcohol to hide feeling's and now that I get them out twice a week w/a therapist I am doing great.
Just something for you to think about.
You may want to talk to your Dr. to be safe.
Best Of Luck,
Casey

Did you read the link I gave you above? It talks about what to expect when you stop alcohol abruptly, and seizures are one of the more severe possibilities. What did the ER doctors tell you? It really is dangerous to do this on your own. There are medicaitons that can help you through this and keep you safer. Can you call your family doctor?

hogie911,
If I were you I wouldn't take anymore chance's , If you have a primary Doctor you should see him right away and tell him what happened, all I can tell you is what the Dr. told me that I would continue w/seizure's and quite possibly die!
This is not something to take lightly.
I Wish You Luck,
Casey

You are walking a dangerous path...be very careful. Any problems arise, call 911 or go to the hospital. Insurance or not, it's not worth losing your life while you are trying to regain it.

Some areas have County or State assisted treatment facilities. Have you looked into this?

As much as it pains me to say this, I think you should continue to drink in moderation until you are medically supervised. It's the safest way to go. Try not to do your daily 16, but more than the 4 you said you had and still had a seizure. Be careful and aware. I'm so glad you are seeing someone on Monday!!

You are doing a good thing and being smart about how you do it now. Being nervous is understandable but well worth it in the long run.

hogie911,
I undestand your fear, I just have one question ; Why didn't you let the Emegancy Room Dr. admit you. It seem's like he didn't care about insurance.
Be careful this weekend and I wish you the best of Luck. Anybody would be scared but don't let that stop you-you are on the road, it is not an easy one but eveything is one step at a time, sometime's one-minute at a time.
Best of Luck!!

You have to do what you have to do. Whatever it takes to get on the right track. If it means living with family while you get yourself together, then that's what you need to do. Don't let your pride stand in the way of your goal. You are pushing in the right direction and don't fall short of sobriety. It's a matter of life and death, really. Stay focused, OK?

Hogie911,

Well I wish you luck on the job, but please be careful you cannot fool around with these siezure's.
At least still try to find a free clinic or something.
I fear the pressure may get to you.
I wish you luck.

Be very careful. You already know what can happen. Sure, cutting back would be great but it's not always easy....if it were, you would be doing it already.

Maybe you could try a six pack a day. Don't buy any more than that and ration them out. Do you think you could do that? Also, what kind of job is this? Are you going to be able to work and NOT drink?

Sounds like the job is going to be good for you both financially and physically. Just be careful and over time you may be able to reduce your intake to nothing. Work hard and keep yourself hydrated. I wasn't trying to imply that you must drink on the job or that you are dumb. Again, be careful and at this point you know the signs of trouble. Congrat's on the job!

Hogie911,
Keeping busy really does help you forget about thing's and it is a Great Stress Reducer! I find my work-out's help me w/stress, I have quite a bit of it , being in a Family business is like Thank's Giving or X-Mas everyday, so I need something to let my stress and steam out otherwise I would go insane!
Take Care!

It sure sounds like you are under stress. I am glad to hear your liver has recovered somewhat, the liver is a very resilient organ. But it does have its limits, be careful. Look into what is available regarding medication to aid sobriety.
What has your doctor said about detox? That's who you should talk to about the medication. But it sounds like you are under a great deal of stress.
Stay in touch.
