Exclamation Wicked headaches

Hi Everyone
I have been getting pounding headaches and even three advil dosen't do any good, is this another side effect, or something else? When I was diagnosed with this terminal thing, I had every test you can think of, MRI, CT SCANS, ANGIOGRAM, EKG'S BLAH BLAH BLAH. HELP
I can't take acetomenophen because of an alergic reaction to it. Can someone help.

Have you tried drinking a big glass of water? Dehydration is a common side effect that causes headaches.

Sarah,
I drink water all day and even if I awaken in the middle of the night. I know when I need water, I'll drink two 8oz glasses in a row. Today I took 4 Advil and it did ease up a bit but it is really getting me concerned. The body is funny if you need water you know it, and I drink tons of it.

Hi darkeyes, when you say you've had all those tests done, was that before or after you started Suboxone?

Hi Darkeyes,
This is probably a stupid suggestion, but when I get headaches I take two Aleve and they usually go away. Nothing else helps me as much as Aleve does. Back when I was taking my doc, Vicodin, I STILL used to take Aleve for pain, believe it or not! It's true!

Hi darkeyes, I guess I should have asked if you had the headaches prior to Suboxone also. Sorry about that.

I also have had SEVERE headaches and it started after Suboxone and I do drink a ton of water because of the effect opiods have on your thirst mechanisim. I hope to figure out why I get them It usually happens about and hour to two after dosing and last all day!!! It seems to be happining everyday and they perscribed me firocet because everything else has failed but I am too scared too take even though it worked b/c I found out it is addictive!!!!

Hi darkeyes, that's good that you pinpointed the reason for the headaches.

*******

Hi jamesisdone, I wonder if you have a hypersensitivity to the naloxone. Especially because it's happening an hour to two after you take it. That's the timeframe for full effect to kick in.

What you might want to try is spitting out the stuff leftover after the pill is dissolved. There've been quite a few people who have done that and it's taken care of the headaches. Might not hurt to give it a try.

Let me know if that helps.

hi jamesisdone,
you are doing so good on suboxone and i would really try everything possible before going off it.
can your dr give you subutex?
i also read that may eliminate the headaches.
i wake up with a headache and after i take the suboxone ,it goes away about 80%,the other 20% i take tylonal and it usually works.
i know it's not easy to get a dr to prescribe subutex ,but i would ask.
i am sure he is aware of the headaches you have been getting.
you know i wish you all the best
hugs,
denise

Hi jamesisdone, if the spitting out works, then that's usually a sign that you're hypersensitive to the naloxone. Some have just kept doing that throughout their Suboxone treatment. Others have then had Subutex prescribed. The only things about -tex is that it's more expensive if you pay cash; some doctors just refuse to prescribe it; and some insurance companies won't cover it as Suboxone is the 'preferred formulation'.

Let us know if the spitting helps.
Hope so!

Hi Nancy and everyone
I went to the dr today, and he told me that the headaches are most probably a side effect from the Suboxene. Now here is my problem and it;s a big one. This terminal disease I have prevents me from taking Aleve, Advil, Tylenol, and aspirin makes me bleed and that's what the specialist DOESN'T want me to do, he put it like this: any blood anywhere, no discussion, surgery, which I may not make it through.
Does anyone know of any natural herbal remedies for this? If so I would like to give it a try as long as my Dr says its ok. God I hope 2010 is a better year for me and that this does not progress any further.

Hi darkeyes, I thought you said in chat last night that you've had the headaches even before starting Suboxone?

If they are new, then try spitting out the excess after the pill dissolves and see if that helps.

To everyone spitting the saliva, I have tried it and it does seem to work, the booklet we were given at the doctors office, told us that the headaches would go away once the body is stable. I feel great physically, I just wish I could feel better emotionally. . Thanks for the advice it does work, no how do I get my ankles back to normal????

Hi darkeyes, some people are hypersensitive to the naloxone and that's why the spitting works for some and not for others. If the swelling in your ankles has started since you started taking Suboxone, then you might continue spitting out the saliva, as some people with a hypersensitivity to the naloxone have said that helps with the swelling too.

If not, then get it checked out by a doctor.
