I'm in the same boat. History of self-medication for depression and anxiety, which of course alcohol *causes* as well. So there's a cycle in itself. And yep, successful marriage, lovely life in general, absolutely no reason to go blank. Yet I have kept doing it.

We don't need to. And we don't need to look back.

I've noticed that when I'm running, if I look behind me, I risk tripping and falling. I've found that to be a pretty good analogy for this journey. If you want to stay upright and not hurt yourself, there is only one direction: forward.

(Which is to say -- be kind to yourself, please. You are worth it!)
